Dermal fillers have become one of the most common non-surgical cosmetic treatments in North America. Dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid, a compound naturally found in the skin to give us form and structure. As we age, the hyaluronic acid between the layers of our skin diminishes, causing the skin to lose its natural volume thus creating wrinkles or folds. Dermal fillers are injected in a gel consistency to replace this lost volume, lifting sagging tissue, enhancing facial angles, and softening lines and wrinkles. Commonly treated areas include the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks and lip lines. The majority of clients choose a combination of both Botox and Dermal Fillers, since these treatments complement one another to achieve optimal results in facial rejuvenation known as the Soft Lift. The result is a natural, rejuvenated look by softening lines and wrinkles combined with lifting sagging features.
There are many different types and brands of Dermal Fillers available in Canada. Dermal fillers which are made of hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane, are the safest and most widely used. Each dermal filler has unique properties. The best results are often achieved with combining the various fillers, resulting in a truly customized treatment. The amount and type of dermal filler needed depends on the patient aesthetic goals and amount of volume loss. Dr. Gupta encourages a gradual approach and works in collaboration with the client to achieve the look they want.
The skin is made of two layers, an outer layer called the epidermis and an inner layer called the dermis. The area between these two layers contains a jelly-like substance called hyaluronic acid. As we age the hyaluronic acid between the layers of our skin diminishes. This decrease in hyaluronic acid causes the skin to lose its natural volume and fullness and creates wrinkles or folds. Dermal fillers replace the natural hyaluronic acid and add volume and firmness to the skin.
Dermal Fillers come in several different forms, all of which contain the same chemical compounds. They differ in terms of the size of their particles, with smaller ones designed to eliminate fine wrinkles and larger ones aimed at softening deeper creases. Dr. Gupta can discuss your goals with you and help you decide which Filler treatment is best suited to your needs.
Clients will see changes almost immediately after treatment with dermal fillers.
The results achieved with Dermal Fillers varies from person to person, and typically last 6 to 12 months. Dermal fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance without follow up treatments.
Immediately following the procedure, patients may notice some swelling and redness, but this will fade within days. The new, rejuvenated look will then appear: sagging areas of skin will be fuller, large folds and fine lines will be smoother.
Results achieved with Dermal Fillers are highly dependent on the type of filler used as well as the expertise of the injector. Dermal fillers should not be used on clients with certain medical conditions. Dr. Gupta will personally assess you and review your medical history to determine which treatments are right for you.
